YMCA Skatepark Clairemont CA

Today, I want to share with you a place that has left an indelible mark on me. This skatepark, a destination that I had been following closely for a long time, was one of those bucket lists that every skateboarder carries with them and that finally became a reality.

The skate culture in California is like a giant family. You meet skaters from all corners, sharing the same passion and willing to offer advice, teach new tricks and just enjoy time skating together. The relationships you build in these parks and streets are lasting, each new friendship adds a unique layer to continue to grow that value you breathe in California, and that’s a reflection of my time at the YMCA.

My trip began at the Los Angeles airport, where we rented a car and drove along Interstate 73 until just before San Clemente, where we joined the 5, heading south to San Diego. Once in the mythical SOCAL, we took the exit for Clairemont, and in a few kilometers we would arrive at the park.

Located very close to San Diego, this skatepark is an incredible place at the same time that is super close to nearby places like La Jolla where you can enjoy its community of sea lions, seals, pelicans … and very close to the San Diego Petco Stadium ¡¡¡¡Go Padres GO!!!!!

Why will Clairemont on your visit be a must-see?

A place that breathes the mythical “SOCAL”, with one-story houses and old muscle cars parked under the classic parking meters (now card meters). Visiting these places filled my eyes with unforgettable images and reminds me why that “Californian style” that I saw in so many movies.

Once inside the park (with free parking), with the wheels stuck in the vert, you enjoy incredible views of the Californian coast ( and this will be another post “Southern California beaches”). Being up there, with the tail in the coping and looking straight ahead, is what I would define as HAPPINESS.

the reason for that “Californian style” I saw in so many movies

Breathtaking sunsets, spectacular golden light, a vert, a bowl, a pump track and a variety of ramps make up a park with a story, but not just any story… it’s a story in the purest Californian style, adorned with punk rock coming out of the speakers of one of the local regulars for many years “Stefan”.

My days here were mainly focused on working on the vertical, improving and gaining fluency, perfecting little by little my skateboarding style, because in Gijón I don’t have the opportunity to hit the vertical.

In this place, you will have the opportunity to improve and learn new tricks, since every day skaters from all over the world arrive, which means that you can see, try and receive help to land those tricks that you are having trouble landing.

LOCAL´s Gratitude

It was here that I met Anthony, a local y filmer who acted as the perfect host during my time at the skatepark. I publicly thank all his hospitality and all the YMCA staff from this space, as they were amazing. In addition, this summary includes some videos captured by Anthony, which I greatly appreciate and I invite you to follow him on his IG, because it’s cool.

This trip, where the Skate Park YMCA San Diego (CA)  of Clairemont are protagonists, was something that I wanted to upload and write about it, because if you are thinking of spending a few days in California, this park is one of the must in the world of skateboarding.

¡¡¡¡Thank you YMCA for the hospitality and thanks to all the crew.!!!!!
